Flame Propagation Test for a Single Insulated Cable
Compliance
IEC 60332-1, IEC 60332-3-24
The Flame Propagation Test Apparatus, in accordance with IEC 60332, provides the procedure for assessing the resistance of insulated conductors, cables, and optical fiber cables to vertical flame propagation under controlled conditions. The apparatus employs a 1 kW pre-mixed flame to evaluate flame spread performance.
a) A test specimen of single insulated cable (600 mm length) is mounted vertically.
b) The ignition source is stabilized as per IEC 60695-11-2, with the burner inclined at 45°.
c) The flame is applied to the cable at a vertical distance of 475 mm.
d) After the prescribed flame application time, the flame source is removed.
e) The test is repeated two additional times on fresh specimens.
f) Results are evaluated in accordance with acceptance criteria for flame spread, charring, and self-extinguishing behavior.
The Flame Propagation Test Apparatus consists of:
Floor-mounted integrated fume cupboard for safe exhaust and ventilation.
